Frequently Asked Questions

We know that going to a church for the first time can be pretty stressful. There is so much to consider and you are walking into a building that you've never been in before. It can all be pretty overwhelming. So, we want to do our best to make you feel as prepared as possible before you visit us for the first time. Below are some questions that we often hear visitors ask when they first start going to Taylorville Christian Church. Hopefully this will give you a head start on some of the ins-and-outs of this place. Of course if you have any other questions that are not addressed here, you can email us at office@taylorvillechristian.com or call 217-824-6621.

When are your services?

Our classic service is on Sunday at 8:30 AM, and our worship service is at 10:00 AM, with live stream starting at 9:55 AM on Facebook.

How long are your services?

Our services last between 50-60 minutes. Not too short and not too long.

What should I wear to church?

Anything - as long as it's something! Seriously, you can wear anything you want to church. Some people wear shorts and some wear a full blown suit or dress. Most people are somewhere in the middle - jeans or pants. Just wear whatever feels comfortable to you.

What goes on during service?

Essentially, we try to let go of the stress of this life and focus in on what God wants to say to us. We sing some worship songs together, take communion, give money, and listen to a sermon that is easy to understand.

Are you going to ask me for money?

We will have a moment in each service where people give money to the church. The people who attend Taylorville Christian Church are generous, so most of them try to give.  However, as our guest, we don't want you to feel any pressure to give anything. Just relax and enjoy the service.

Where do I park?

Anywhere you like! We have a big parking lot out front.

What entrance do I use?

We know that this one can be a little confusing. We have a total of four entrances that connect to the parking lot. Sorry, we are a large campus with a Christian school. If you are in the parking lot, you will want to go to the Main Entrance which is located in the center of the building. If all else fails, just follow everyone else.

Do you have anything for my children to do during service?

Yes! We know what it's like to try to keep your kiddos quiet during an entire church service. Talk about tough work! So, we have specifically created environments to engage your kids and teach them about God's love for them. It's called our Kids Ministry. It meets during the 10:00a Sunday morning service for newborns all the way to fifth graders.

How do I find the Kids Ministry area?

After you enter the main entrance, turn right and you will see our gym. That's the location of our elementary Kids Ministry. Pretty sweet, right? If your kids are younger, turn left and you'll see the nursery and preschool area just off the foyer.

What should I do with my teenagers?

Well, that's a pretty big question. Maybe pray that they move out at 18 instead of continuing to eat you out of house and home? Seriously though, if you are a parent of a teenager, we love you. We know that the job you have is tough. Keep working hard, because what you do each day matters.

During our Sunday morning worship services, we encourage teenagers to attend church with their families. The truth is, they are not very far away from adulthood so they need to start getting used to attending "adult church." On Sunday nights at 6:00 PM during the school year, we have our weekly Student Ministry meeting. It's a killer time for teenagers. You should encourage them to grab a friend and check it out. Odds are, they probably already know someone who attends. It really is the place to be on a Sunday night.

Can I listen to a sermon before I actually go to church?

Definitely. Head over to our Media Center and listen to or watch as many as you like. Or just search for us on your favorite podcast service.
